A Day of Remembrance

Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, is a solemn day to honor the women and men who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States military.

Established after the Civil War, Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day and was a time for families to decorate the graves of their loved ones who had died in battle. Over time, the holiday has evolved into a day of remembrance for all military personnel who have died in service to their country.

This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 29, 2023. On this day, Americans across the country will pause to remember the brave men and women who have given their lives for our freedom. We will attend parades, visit cemeteries, and engage in other acts of remembrance to honor their sacrifice.
